Food & Drink: Beatons Tearooms & Bookshop

On Sunday I had the pleasure of visiting the newly opened Beatons Tearooms & Bookshop in the little village of Crowthorne in Berkshire.
I understand that Beatons flagship tearooms opened five years ago in Tisbury, Wiltshire and that has quickly been followed by franchises in Blandford, Chester and now Crowthorne.

With a stylish pink and white interior, the tearooms offer a full table service in a light and airy environment, perfect for a coffee morning with friends.

The menu is varied, offering loose leaf teas, coffee, Italian soda, homemade cakes and a breakfast/lunch menu that should satisfy the pickiest of eaters.

I was only there for a flying visit and therefore decided to try the White Peony tea and a savoury cheese scone. I'm happy to report that both were delicious. The tea was delivered to the table in a little teapot with homemade teabag and a little egg timer. I was impressed when the server (I believe it was the owner, Paul Mitchell) volunteered advice as to how long to stew the tea before pouring. He seemed very knowledgeable about their products.

Beatons advertises itself as Tearooms and Bookshop. The 'bookshop' element might be a slight exaggeration, however there are a couple of comfy chairs situated in a cosy corner at the back of the café and along with some bookcases stocked with a small selection of books available for purchase.

I very much enjoyed my visit to Beatons Tearooms & Bookshop. It is wonderfully calm and relaxing environment and the perfect place to wile away an hour reading my Kindle and people-watching.  I am looking forward to introducing my friends to this delightful new café.
